Trees and more trees....

I am a nature freak. I love trees, rivers, hills and birds. "Shire" as described in "Lord of The Rings" happens to be my favorite place. NSS IITD provided me the perfect opportunity for planting trees this monsoon ( though we hardly had rains this time). Kalpvriksh had planned a Tree plantation drive this Saturday in nearby Navakriti school. Their plan was to involve nursery kids in planting of trees. So volunteers from NSS IITD decided to help out kids in planting trees.

It wasn’t a difficult job, but sun & humid conditions were making it difficult to work. But when going gets tougher, tougher gets going. Moreover watching small children (of the age 5-10) planting trees was so fun that sun hardly mattered to us. Digging some pits, getting ourselves dirty reminded me of my childhood days. After planting, it was turn to water them. So we picked up buckets and mugs & found water from wherever we could & then finished this job too in minutes.

I wish to have similar drive in IIT. Lets see if this can be done. “Every hand counts, even you can make the difference, what you require is just a will to do it.”

  1. Its great to hear that someones is taking initiative to plant trees.... On my personal level, I have attempted to plant trees near my house and have been succesful and even failed a number of times. You know...how many challenges to face...Cows, people walking over saplings, gardeners ripping them off and even MCD concreting the area. Still, I never left hope. It would be great if we can have a Tree plantation drive in IIT or neighbouring areas like Hauz khaz or Saket. We can make an overwhelming effort. I would always be available for help if any such activity is organised.
